Become a member

To become a member of the Summit is to join the innovative network of organizations working for the socio-economic development of Black communities.

By joining Sdesj, one participates in the elaboration of the main economic and social projects, conceived by and for the Black communities. It is to guarantee one’s contribution to the prosperity of Quebec while benefiting from the services of this large structure.

Acquire greater credibility by joining a federation of organizations defending collective interests and principles;
See your values and principles promoted and defended by a federation recognized by stakeholders and decision-makers;
Participate in a collective reflection and rich exchanges on the issues and challenges affecting the Black communities;
To develop one’s network while benefiting from the sharing of information and the transfer of knowledge and expertise among community organizations working in the Black communities;
Benefit from training services and strategic tools that will strengthen your organizational capacities
Benefit from a dissemination and promotion service: posting of job/internship/volunteer opportunities; promotion of events; website;

These are organizations and associations of the Black communities in Quebec. In addition to the criteria set out in the General Bylaws, the Membership Policy specifies additional conditions for membership. To become a member, you must

Meet all the criteria set out in the General Bylaws;
Any organization, group or association founded or led by members of the Black communities.

To be a Non-Profit Organization serving the Black communities with democratic structures and functioning, including:

A general assembly that allows for democratic control by its members and has the power to accept financial and activity reports, decide on the directions of the organization, and elect the members of the board of directors;
Be governed by a Board of Directors composed of at least 5 members;
Be managed by a board of directors that is independent of the public network.
Have its head office in Quebec.
Not be a funder of the Summit.
More specifically, meet the following characteristics or be in the process of developing them
Adhere to the mission, objectives and values of the Summit.
Be accepted by the General Assembly.
Be committed to respecting the corporation’s bylaws.

  1. To be an organization serving Black communities with democratic structures and operations, including:
    A general assembly that allows for democratic control by its members and has the power to accept financial and activity reports, decide on the directions of the organization, and elect board members;
    A Board of Directors composed of at least 5 members;
    A board of directors that is independent of the public network.
  2. Have its head office in Quebec.
  3. Be accepted by the General Assembly.
  4. Pay its annual membership fee of ….
  5. Commit to respecting the by-laws of the corporation.

Associate members do not have the right to vote at meetings and are not eligible to be members of the board of directors of the corporation.

The assembly may appoint honorary members of the corporation through a resolution. An honorary member may be a person, organization or association who has rendered service to the Corporation by his or her work, donations or who has shown support and interest in the objects of the Corporation. Honorary members may participate in the activities of the corporation and attend members’ meetings. However, they shall not be entitled to vote at meetings and shall not be eligible for election to the board of directors of the corporation.

  1. Submit the application by letter to the Summit President along with the Board of Directors’ resolution authorizing the application
  2. Complete a membership application form.
  3. Pay the membership fee and provide proof of payment.
  4. Submit required documents (see list below).
  5. Schedule an initial application meeting with the Summit team to discuss your motivation for joining the Summit

  4. Letter of recommendation from two member organizations of the Summit (Any individual, member of the Summit is also accepted)
