Veika DONATIEN

Doctoral candidate in public administration

Veika Donatien is a doctoral candidate in public administration at the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa, specializing in public policies. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in Public and International Affairs. Her research interests focus on territorial reforms and the administration of local public services, local politics, the work of elected officials, and accountability at the municipal level. She has contributed to several research projects on local democracy and inclusive public action, particularly issues related to the adoption and implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) policies.

Before pursuing her graduate studies, Veika Donatien worked as a project officer at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). She also worked as the head of the gender and women’s rights section of a platform of migrant rights advocacy organizations, the Support Group for Refugees and Repatriates (GARR). In this role, she participated in advocacy efforts to promote women’s rights and collaborated on the implementation of various organizational strengthening, networking, and training programs for women living in migrant communities.
