Bénédict Nguiagain-Launière, trained as a historian and sociologist, holds a master’s degree in applied history and a PhD in sociology from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQÀM). Her doctoral research project focused on the construction of the social experience of second-generation young adults from Sub-Saharan Africa in Montreal. Her research interests include issues related to immigration, discrimination, decolonization/decoloniality, systemic racism, and the social and economic inclusion of racialized people, particularly those from Afro-descendant communities in Canada.
Her areas of expertise are the sociology of immigration, Afro-Canadian history, anti-black racism, and participatory action research (By, For, and With). As a researcher at the Observatory of Black Communities, Bénédict is responsible for developing, implementing, and conducting research activities and projects associated with the strategic axis of Education and Training. She also collaborates within the Culture and Justice research groups.
