The Summit Young Afro is a network of over 60 organizations whose mission is to contribute to the economic and social development of Quebec, focusing specifically on the contributions of young people from Black communities. As part of its ongoing activities, the Afro Summit is looking for an Assistant Director of Communications.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the authority of the Director of Development and Communications, the incumbent is responsible for planning and coordinating communication activities to promote the Summit, its observatory, its members, its programs, and its activities. They ensure the visibility and strategic positioning of the Summit and supervise the communications team, working in collaboration with program and Observatory teams.

Specifically, the incumbent performs the following tasks:

    • Contribute to the annual planning of Summit communication activities;
    • Coordinate internal and external communication activities of the Summit;
    • Design and implement the brand image management strategy and positioning of the Summit;
    • Ensure the positioning and visibility of the Quebec Black Communities Observatory;
    • Coordinate communication campaigns and events;
    • Design and produce informational content (annual report, leaflet, brochures, newsletter);
    • Ensure visibility of Summit programs and initiatives;
    • Develop and consolidate relationships with the media;
    • Design and implement the digital communication and social media strategy including updating the website;
    • Supervise employees under their responsibility, ensure their training, distribute work, check its execution, and evaluate its quality;
    • Contribute to partnership solicitations to contribute to the Summit’s financial sustainability.A

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication or Marketing or equivalent relevant experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communication;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English;
  • Experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams;
  • Agility and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while delivering quality work within required deadlines;
  • Very good knowledge of specialized communication tools and software;
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office suite and collaborative work tools;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent writing, analysis, and synthesis skills;
  • Organizational, planning, and autonomy skills;
  • Knowledge of Black community issues is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the community sector is an asset.

TERMS AND BENEFITS

  • One-year contract, renewable, full-time (35 hours/week)
  • Normal schedule: 9 am – 5 pm / possibility of hybrid work (in Montreal at 3332, rue Jarry Est and telecommuting)
  • Salary: according to the organization’s salary scale
